Vase Signed Jacques Blin, 1950–1960, With A Mottled, Shaded Matte Blue Glaze

Artist: Jacques Blin
Vase signed Jacques BLIN, 1950–1960, with a mottled, shaded matte blue glaze. The decoration is incised, featuring stylized animals engraved into the clay before glazing—in this case, does and/or antelopes—a favorite theme of Jacques Blin. The vase’s shape: a slender, pear-shaped body that tapers at the neck—elegant and modernist for its time—featuring a frieze. The incised geometric band below the neck is also a recurring motif in his work.

Jacques Blin established his studio in Paris in 1954 after training with the leading ceramicists of the time. His style was inspired by the cave art of Lascaux and African art. The signature “J. Blin” is incised beneath the piece.
