Charming German Saxon Porcelain Figurine Depicting A Young Page / Marquis – 19th Century
A charming antique polychrome porcelain figurine depicting a young marquis wearing a tricorn hat adorned with a purple plume, a yellow sash, and a sword at his belt.
The figure strikes a theatrical pose, characteristic of works produced by the Saxon manufactory in the second half of the 19th century.
The statuette rests against a tree trunk on a rocaille base richly embellished with gilding, highlighting the finesse of the modeling and the quality of the craftsmanship.
The delicate skin tones, vivid colors, and gilding—still clearly visible—attest to the craftsmanship of the Saxon workshops, which drew heavily on 18th-century Rococo models.
The reverse of the base bears a monogram painted in underglaze blue, corresponding to a Saxon workshop mark.
Saxony (Germany), likely the Volkstedt or Sitzendorf region.
