Important 17th-century Carved Oak Altarpiece
Important carved oak altarpiece with a rich religious decoration arranged in two registers.
The upper section depicts God the Father surrounded by two angels and holding the Tablets of the Law beneath an architectural arch with molded decoration.
The lower register features an offering scene gathering numerous figures around a central character. In the lower right corner appears a small carved devil, a particularly interesting iconographic detail that brings movement and narrative depth to the composition.
The whole displays a fine quality of carving, with expressive faces, flowing drapery, and numerous carefully executed details.
The altarpiece retains its old framework, which shows some alterations and adjustments made over time, likely during an early reassembly or reinstallation. These modifications do not detract from the coherence or overall quality of the work.
Carved oak.
Some old restorations, shrinkage cracks, and wear consistent with age.
A remarkable and highly decorative piece of religious art with impressive presence.
