Studio Easel
Large artist’s easel from the late 19th to early 20th century. A distinctive feature of this model—both practical and aesthetic—is the storage compartment at its base, designed to hold the painter’s supplies. Constructed from several types of wood—oak, beech, and a white wood that is difficult to identify due to its beautiful, uniform patina. The lower panel is fixed; a crank and locking mechanism allow the upper panel to be adjusted to accommodate a second painting in progress, offering two working heights. Two casters have been replaced diagonally—one at the front and one at the back—with wooden cleats. Four holes have been drilled symmetrically into the uprights at two different heights. The cord has been replaced, and wrought-iron bars have been added to the back. Last photo: view from the back. Maximum height between the two shelves: 70.7 cm (137.5 cm to the crossbar above). At the lowest setting, height: 2.26 m; at the highest, 2.75 m.
