Short Sword Known As The Cinquedea
SHORT SWORD KNOWN AS A CINQUEDEA
Italy. 16th century (blade) – 19th century (hilt)
Steel.
Length: Total: 65.5 cm; Blade length: 50 cm
Wide, double-edged, triangular blade; fluted with four rows of grooves—four at the heel, then three, and two, ending with one at the tip.
Handle made of steel, chiseled with a frieze, adorned with two plates held in place by four rivets, two of which form rosettes. Rivet button.
Guard with quillons sloping toward the blade, entirely chiseled with a vine leaf motif, featuring a profile of Caesar at the center of each.
The blade dates from the 16th century, and the later mounting is certainly from the early 19th century.
Very good condition.
