Swiss Triptych Desk Clock With Barometer By Gübelin
Swiss triptych desk clock with barometer by Gübelin
Exceptional work attributed to the Gübelin firm
Triptychs, defined as works of art, music, or literature presented in three parts, have been used for centuries in altarpieces and pictorial works. This unique design takes the form of a desk clock incorporating a clock and barometer in an unusual triptych format.
The two side panels feature magnificent musical scenes rendered in mother-of-pearl mosaics. On one side, a young woman sits under a tree playing the harp. Opposite her, a young boy seated on a stool plays the mandolin.
The clock and barometer are housed in the center within a luxurious gilded brass case, integrated into the decorative ensemble. A fully restored Swiss movement with 15 jewels, running for 8 days and signed by the famous watchmaker Gübelin, powers the clock.
Needs servicing; mechanism requires overhaul.
Piece in very good condition; the lacquer is partially peeling in the marquetry design but is complete and original.
