Kriss Handle From Lombok, Indonesia
Kriss hilt from the Lombok Islands in Indonesia.
Late 19th century.
Two men, one riding on the other’s back, dressed in Western military attire—helmet, tunic, sleeves, and trousers made of cloth—perfectly identifiable; indeed, the Dutch landed in Lombok in 1674, followed by battles for total control of the island; they did not leave until 1942.
An original metal band forms the base of this handle. We had it mounted by a professional mountmaker on an elegant bronze-patinated brass stem.
