Regency-era Console Table In Light Oak With Aleppo Breccia Marble
A richly carved and openwork light oak console table. Thesymmetrical interlacing patterns, garlands of flowers, and plant motifscome together to form a beautiful carved shell at the center of the apron.
The bases of the four generously curved legs are openwork anddecorated with an acanthus leaf.
The carved crossbar connecting the four legs features a generous centralknob adorned with a large openwork shell and floral scrolls.
This console table, with its balanced and finely executed motifs, features in severalplaces the famous shell motif characteristic of the Regency period; it istopped with its original reinforced marble: Aleppo marble. This marble,predominantly yellow and composed of colored fragments, comes from the quarry atTholonet, near Aix-en-Provence.
