Fossil Tooth Of Spinosaurus - Late Cretaceous
Large fossil tooth of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, from the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian) formations of the Kem Kem Basin in Morocco.
The Spinosaurus was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs to have ever lived on Earth. It lived approximately 95 million years ago, primarily in what is now North Africa. Recognizable by the large sail on its back and its long, crocodile-like snout, it was likely semi-aquatic and spent much of its time in rivers hunting giant fish.
Unlike the famous Tyrannosaurus rex, the spinosaurus was better adapted to swimming than to running. Scientists even believe it may have been the first known dinosaur to have led a largely aquatic lifestyle.
This tooth specimen is distinguished by its extraordinary size. The enamel exhibits a characteristic dark patina, indicating the fossil’s mineralization.
