Nadar photographic camera N° 1908 in varnished wood, format 9 x 12 cm with Denis N°164 brass lens, curtain shutter, burgundy bellows, frosted, tilting back and off-center front circa 1900.
Nadar (Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, 1820-1910) was first a caricaturist and journalist before becoming a pioneering photographer. He opened a Paris studio in the 1850s, where he produced portraits of celebrities (Hugo, Baudelaire, Sarah Bernhardt...). He also sold camera rooms and equipment under his own name, helping to popularize photography in France.
His studio was a place to sell and promote photography, where you could buy equipment as well as have your portrait taken.
