Superb 19th century salon painting with its period frame in wood and gilded stucco, on its original canvas, signed lower right, very rare works depicting bouquets of flowers by this artist who specialized in landscapes (unlike his namesake Godchaux, who specialized in still lifes).He was a pupil of Gustave COURBET, specializing in Pyrenean landscapes as well as views of Constantinople and Venice. From 1880, he was a member of the south-western section of the French Alpine Club, then chaired by Franz SCHRADER.
He exhibited at numerous salons and was recognized as a talented and prolific landscape painter.
