- This tapestry, a Verdure, offers us a window onto a verdant landscape. Positioning the viewer at the edge of a wood, this vantage point allows us to compose a landscape with depth; a foreground of tall trees through which a beautiful perspective emerges. On the left is a hilly landscape with cypress trees standing on a rocky spur, and on the right a mountain range. Nature is presented here with great vivacity, as evidenced by the abundance of foliage. The colors offer picturesque cameos of blues and greens. Careful attention to the interplay of light and shade underscores the meticulous work of the weavers, who combine wools and silks to remarkable effect. The blue and brown hues contrast with the numerous uses of light silks in the weaving, creating a luminous whole.
