Carved Oak Hunting Lodge Sideboard In The Henri II Style, Late 19th Century
Henri II style carved oak hunting lodge buffet, late 19th century
Remarkable richly carved oak hunting lodge buffet, Henri II style, made in the late 19th century.
This piece of furniture is composed of two bodies. The upper part opens out through two large glass doors framed by twisted columns, allowing glassware, trophies or collectibles to be displayed. The interior is fitted with shelves providing ample storage space.
The lower part opens with two leaves carved in high relief with hunting trophies, horns, game, foliage and hunting attributes. Two drawers in the belt, adorned with bunches of grapes and vegetal motifs, complete the ensemble.
The abundant sculpture is found throughout the façade: twisted columns, leafy moldings, Renaissance scrolls and an imposing architectural cornice centered on a lion mascaron. The flattened ball feet and generous proportions reinforce the prestigious character of this piece destined for country homes and hunting lodges.
By its quality of execution and the richness of its decoration, this piece of furniture is a superb testimony to the taste for the Renaissance style in the late 19th century.
