An 18th-century cathedral paschal candle that, fortunately, only held a flame for an instant.a flame for just a moment.
This candle, made almost entirely of beeswaxits ivory color and rudentine shape
iIt represents the months of the yearof the Roman calendar (e.g. decem was the tenth month of the calendarwhich began in March).
Sprinkled with polychrome cartouches faithful to Bavarian Baroque iconography, this candle bears witness to an incredible know-how. A few traces of timemarks here and there, but they are not serious
.I learn that the craftsman uses the heatof his palms to soften the decorative wax without melting it...melt...
This piece required hours of surgical precision to bring us thisthis 50 cm-high masterpiece.
