Biography:
Henry MALFROY ( 1895 / 1944 )
Henry Malfroy was a French painter born on January 15, 1895 in Martigues in the Bouches-du-Rhône region.
He apprenticed at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with his father Charles Malfroy, with whom he is often confused.
He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934.
He painted the coasts and ports of the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var regions, Venice and Paris, as well as the banks of the Seine, but it was above all Martigues, his stronghold then called the "Venice of Provence" situated on the banks of the Etang de Berre and the Canal de Caronte, linking the Etang to the Mediterranean, with the port of Martigues, landscapes that inspired many artists at the time.
Following in the footsteps of Raymond Allègre, Decanis and Felix Ziem.
His works, luminous with bright colors, were particularly sought-after on the art market, and canvases depicting Mediterranean ports fetched high prices.
