Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945) Art Deco Pitcher, Mexican Period, Circa 1940

Artist: Jean E. Puiforcat
Solid silver pitcherof cylindrical form resting on a circular pedestal, fitted with a pinched spoutand a spectacular openwork handle with double circular opening forming ageometric sculptural composition.
This piece belongs toJean Puiforcat's rare Mexican production, created after his move toin Mexico City during the Second World War. While retaining the modernistarchitectural vocabulary for which he became renowned in the 1930s, the modelshows an evolution towards more monumental and expressive forms.
The contrast between thecylindrical purity of the body and the almost abstract treatment of the handleperfectly illustrates this phase of stylistic transition.is particularly strong visually, evoking certain dialogues between lateart deco, constructivism and modernist abstraction.
Todayparticularly sought-after by collectors, the "Made in Mexico" productionin Mexico" production is highly prized by collectors for its historical interest and rarity.
