Large Turned Brass Candlestick.
Here is a large candlestick emblematic of late 15th or early 16th century Flemish or German interiors, present in the furniture of goldsmiths or moneychangers.
Composed of a wide flat foot, then a wavy and ribbed cone foot, a long baluster-turned shaft, and a wide binet pierced to collect the expensive wax (modest people lit with tallow), it was an element of social status in the society of the time.
The underside of the foot bears hallmarks, including a crowned coat-of-arms that is difficult to read, and other traces that could also be marks ( reproduced in photo)
It bears traces of repairs on the foot, the screw thread is very dirty or soldered a long time ago, but overall it is in beautiful, stable condition
I did not want to polish it leaving it a soft shine, but I can do so at the customer's request.
