Saint Vincent De Saragosse Patron Saint Of Winegrowers 18th Century Reliquary Statuette
This folk art statuette in polychrome and gilded wood depicts him as a young deacon wearing the dalmatic, carrying the evangelist's book under his arm (the matyr's palm is missing), placed on a pedestal with a space for a relic, Spanish or Pyrenean work from the 18th century. Some traces of xylophagous insects treated only on the base. Died in Valence in 304 during the persecutions of Diocletian, honored from the 6th century in all the former provinces of the Western Roman Empire, the oldest remains of a church dedicated to Saint Vincent are to be found in Narbonne. After the 16th century, according to popular tradition, he was known as the patron saint of winegrowers.
