This rug has several characteristics that are more associated with Tibetan rugs influenced by Chinese art, rather than a pure classical Chinese rug.

The deep red background with symmetrical patterns and "Grecian"-style borders is common in early Tibetan rugs.

The central floral medallion and stylized motifs recall Tibetan Buddhist decorations.The geometric corners and red/blue/cream palette are very typical of early 20th-century Tibetan production.Classical Chinese rugs often feature dragons, clouds, bats, Taoist symbols or more flowing designs.

Probable origin: Tibet
with strong Chinese influence
probably a Ningxia / Tibet-China ancient or semi-ancient style rug.
