Antique Sterling Silver Corinthian Column Candlesticks Birmingham 1911 Lion Mask
This is a pair of antique British sterling silver candlesticks manufactured in the Corinthian column style. Each candlestick features a fluted column shaft rising from a stepped square plinth base. The capitals are decorated with cast acanthus leaf motifs in the Corinthian order. A notable decorative feature is the relief-applied lion mask centered on each face of the square section above the base. The lower edge of the stepped base is finished with a continuous beaded border. The hallmarks are struck on the side of each base, consisting of the maker's mark for H.W. Ld, the anchor town mark for Birmingham, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter "M" for 1911. The candlesticks stand approximately 35.5 cm in height with a base measuring 12.5 cm by 12.5 cm, tapering to 6.5 cm at the top. The total combined weight is 1 kg with unweighted bases.
