Félix Planquette (1873-1964) was an animal and landscape painter trained at the Beaux-Arts in Arras and Lille. He was a member of the École de Wissant, a group of artists who settled in the small town of the same name on the Opal Coast, meeting on the beach and in the surrounding countryside to paint. In addition to his native region, he also painted Normandy, the Côte d'Azur and La Creuse, and traveled to Spain and Scotland. Exhibiting at the Salon from 1894, he won several medals, was awarded a travel grant in 1905 and was awarded the Prix Rosa Bonheur in 1912. In April 1911, a major exhibition of his work was held at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris. Critics praised his mastery of light and meticulous realism. Other exhibitions followed in Valenciennes, Lille, Saint-Lo, Granville, etc., well into the 40s. Today, several of his works are on display at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Arras and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille.
