Victorian Rosebud Diamond Locket In 18 Karat Gold, Eugène Soulens
Artist: Eugène Soulens
Victorian rosebud diamond locket in 18 karat gold. Large locket pendant adorned with an elaborate relief decoration representing two rosebuds, inlaid on the front face. Mounted on silver, they are entirely set with rose-cut diamonds and small fine pearls. The stems are delicately crafted, imitating plant texture. The flower petals are in pink enamel. The rest of the locket is smooth and without other decoration. It opens to place an object or a photograph, protected by a central glass pane framed in gold. Typical of the years 1860-1870, this jewel revives a naturalist subject very popular at the time. Made by Eugène Louis Soulens, goldsmith active since 1864. Cassolette locket, circa 1860, France.
