Gilt bronze wall-mounted cartel from a design by "Antoine Foullet" Louis XVI period, 18th c. The base is adorned with a covered vase decorated with goat heads surmounted by a pine cone.The white enamelled dial signed "Cronier à Paris" indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals (slight chips).the base is formed by a delicately chased leafy console.the original double patina mercury gilding is in good condition, cleaned by our workshop (some wear, notably on the bezel).An identical cartel is preserved at the Musée national du Château de Versailles, Musée du Louvre deposit OA 5287.
Antoine Cronier 1732 - after 1806Antoine Crosnier, or Cronier, was one of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the second half of the 18th century. Son of a Parisian master carpenter, he registered his letters of mastery on March 1, 1763, and set up his workshop on rue Saint-Honoré. He was an instant hit with Parisian luxury watchmaking enthusiasts, and collaborated with the finest craftsmen of the day, including cabinetmaker Jean-Pierre Latz, bronze-makers François Vion and the Osmonds, and gilder Honoré Noël. In the 18th century, some of his creations were mentioned by the Maréchal de Choiseul-Stainville, the Marquis de Sainte-Amaranthe, the Duc des Deux-Ponts and Prince Belosselsky-Belozersky.
