Young Woman With A Hat, Oil On Canvas, Giovanni Beltrami, Late 19th Century
Artist: Giovanni Beltrami
We are pleased to present this splendid late 19th-century oil painting on canvas. This beautiful portrait of a young woman wearing a hat is the work of the Italian painter Giovanni Beltrami (born in Milan in 1860; died in Milan in 1926). The painting is unsigned, but on the back there is an original certificate of authenticity issued by the painter’s sister, his heir.
This wonderful painting depicts a young woman, in a half-length portrait, facing left. Her face, with delicate features and eyes half-closed or cast downward, conveys an intimate, melancholic, and deeply introspective atmosphere. She wears dark clothing typical of high society fashion during the Belle Époque, embellished with a voluminous collar (likely made of fur or feathers) and a striking, tilted dark hat that partially covers her head. A light veil covers the upper part of her face: veiled hats were a symbol of refinement during that period. The background is ethereal and rich in nuances, with soft shades of blue and gray reminiscent of a clear sky.
The painting quality is high, characterized by rapid, free, and full brushstrokes. The strong chromatic contrast between the intense black of the woman’s clothing and the luminous background makes the figure stand out with great vigor and visual immediacy.
If you love portraits, you absolutely must add this wonderful painting to your collection. A splendid work of art that will enchant your guests!
The painting is framed in a magnificent late 19th-century gilded wooden frame with delicate classical decorations.
