This piece, made in vitrified stoneware and featuring two double handles, is an authentic Art Deco studio ceramic vase by Roger Guérin.
Made in Bouffioulx, Belgium, in the 1920s-1930s, this vessel is highly sought-after by collectors for its monumental dimensions, distinctive handle architecture and complex coloring achieved by salt glazing.
Roger Guérin was an iconic figure in 20th-century Belgian ceramics. He perfected the traditional method of "grès salé grand feu". Pouring salt directly into the kiln at 1,300°C creates the characteristic shiny, orange-peel-like texture and changing colors. There is a rich gradation, from deep midnight browns to droplet crystallizations of mossy ochre, beige and slate blue.
