Carved And Gilded Wooden Volute Shaped Frieze Early 1800s
Carved and gilded wooden frieze in the shape of a volute, early 1800s mounted on a modern circular turned base (3 cm high). This piece was originally part of a larger decorative ensemble but it is perfect to be mounted as a lamp base. Of particular note is the quality of the gilding, which plays on the continuous interplay of glossy and matte finishes achieved through both the burnishing with agate stone of the raised sections and the engraving of the background areas.
In good condition, apart from minor gilding wear and chips. Italian origin, early 1800s.
