Biography:

Marcel Brunery was born in Paris into a family of respected artists, his father being François Brunery (1849-1926). Although the Brunery family established themselves as artists in Paris and London, they always remained true to their Italian heritage.

They innovated a particular style of painting in France at the end of the 19th century. It involved the depiction of cardinals and other clergy enjoying the temporal pleasures their vocation afforded them.

Marcell's approach in his works, like that of many painters in this genre, increasingly mocks the lords of the Church and delights in depicting them in domestic drama, showing their susceptibility to the familiar trials and tribulations of daily life.

Brunery's attention to the settings in which he places his stories is incredibly detailed. He faithfully reproduces every aspect of the rooms he paints - the tapestries and refined carpets, the furniture, silverware, satins and silks - everything is perfect.

Marcel was trained by his father and chose to paint in the same style, with great attention to detail and vivid colors. He was born in the late 1880s and continued to paint until the mid-20th century, achieving particular success in 1935 at the Salon des Indépendants.

Brunery's canvases are richly colored and masterfully painted, which explains his popularity, which has remained constant over the years.
