Wakizashi - 18th Century
Wakizashi with shinto blade, mid-Edo period (1603-1868).
Saya covered in polished and lacquered shagreen (same), the tsuka covered in coarse-grained shagreen (black braided), the iron tsuba made of two saddle-shaped elements adorned with gilded copper-inlaid grapevines.
Fuchi-kashira in shibuichi or shakudo with nine galloping horses in shakudo and gold on nanako-ji background, kogatana with decorative signature (probably Seki Kanetsune 関兼常), with a kozuka in shakudo with three galloping horses inlaid in shakudo and gold.
