Biographical notes on the artist
Eugenio Bonivento was born in Chioggia in 1880 and trained as a student of Guglielmo Ciardi. He exhibited for the first time in 1908 at the Galleria Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, a key hub for young artists of the time, and soon followed this with major exhibitions in Turin and Milan. While drawing from the Venetian tradition, he developed a personal style characterized by rapid, concise brushwork and a keen sensitivity to color. To meet market demand, he also produced works in the 18th-century style, sometimes signed with the pseudonym E. Zeno, and watercolors of Venetian views that were highly prized by foreign collectors. His move to Milan, shortly before World War II, marked a decisive phase in his career, leading him to full artistic maturity and wider recognition.
