Provenance: Florence, Angelo Melli* antiques gallery (second half of the 19th century); followed by Piedmont, an important noble villa (the painting was exhibited together with three other paintings forming a series)
The painting is related to the work by Pier Dandini (Florence, 1646–1712), sold at Sotheby's in New York on January 27, 2005.
* Angelo Melli is the founder of a business that still exists today. Originally from Ferrara, he settled in Florence in 1861, where he opened two galleries (one in Via dei Tornabuoni and another in Via Guicciardini) and a shop on the Ponte Vecchio.
