Albert Malet - Coup De Vent - Rouen School
Oil on panel by Albert Malet depicting a gale at dusk
Dimensions: work: 27 x 19 cm
Albert Malet (1912-1986), a pupil and friend of Robert Antoine Pinchon, began painting in 1931. He took part in exhibitions organized by the Société des artistes rouennais. As part of the post-impressionist Rouen School, André Ruellan noted the quality of his fleeting atmospheres, separating planes and making tones vibrate. Art historian Gérald Schurr praises the quality of his "luminism".
This small, dynamic and luminous oil painting illustrates Malet's ability to depict changes in atmosphere. It depicts the banks of a river, probably the Seine. Trees buffeted by the wind punctuate the composition, while in the distance, the presence of a mill reinforces the chosen theme.
