20th Century French School, Bust Of Man Seen From Behind,s, Watercolor Signed
20th century French school
Bust of man seen from behind,
signed lower right (unidentified signature, see detailed photo)
watercolor on paper
46 x 34 cm
In a very simple frame under glass: 53 x 43 cm
This fine watercolor, whose author has not yet been identified, belongs to the genre of "academies", i.e. studies of nude models from life. These studies were often an important part of an artist's training, but they also frequently formed an artistic genre in their own right. They served to demonstrate the painter's dexterity and technical mastery.
This view of the model's back is an excellent example of the artist's ability to choose difficult but interesting angles.
