19th-century Scottish Chevalier Ring, 18k Gold, Montrose Coat Of Arms, Sardonyx Carvin An640
An important 19th-century Scottish chevalier ring, crafted in 18-karat yellow gold and adorned with a finely engraved sardonyx intaglio depicting a complete heraldic coat of arms.
The carving features a quartered shield decorated with scallops and roses, flanked by two birds identifiable as storks, surmounted by a crest depicting a bird of prey, and accompanied by the motto “NE OUBLIEZ”.
This heraldic composition is associated with the arms of the Graham family, Dukes of Montrose. The presence of heraldic supporters indicates a high-ranking privilege, generally reserved for the nobility in the British heraldic system.
The Scottish provenance is confirmed by the Glasgow hallmark indicating “18” for 18-karat gold.
The setting features refined decoration with floral motifs and acanthus scrolls, typical of production from the second half of the 19th century. The engraving is deep and precise, designed for functional use as a seal.
An important example of aristocratic heraldic jewelry, of great historical and collectible value.
