A Pair Of Glued Threads Embroidery, Italy XVIII Century
Pair of embroideries representing respectively the Holy Family and Isaac's Sacrifice. The embroideries are made according to the "painting and glued threads" technique which consists in laying a very thin coat of wax on a carton surface on which silk, gold and silver threds are applied to create the composition. Well known elsewere in the past, this tecnique became particularly appreciated and sought ofter in Italy thanks to the magnificent works created by Marianna Olmo of Lecce (Apulia) around
1730. The gilded and silvered wood frame is richly carved to form a ribbed knot. Very good condition, Italy 1750 circa.
