Modernist "family" Sculpture, Austin Productions Edition, 1970.

This modernist sculpture illustrates the theme of the family unit through an abstract and pared-down lens. The pyramidal composition features three stylized figures (two adults flanking a child). The arms of the parental figures rise and meet to form an arch, symbolizing unity. The fluid treatment of volumes, devoid of strict anatomical details, aligns with the organic sculpture movement of the mid-20th century (recalling the formal grammar of artists such as Henry Moore). The work is made of Durastone, a proprietary crushed stone composite specific to the publisher, covered with a rich dark patina that technically imitates patinated cast bronze

The piece bears the stamp of the American company Austin Productions Inc., dated 1970. Founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 1952, this manufactory established itself as the global leader in sculptural reproduction and the edition of original artworks. Their Durastone creations, hand-cast and artisanally patinated, brought fine sculpture into high-end residential interiors. Since the company permanently ceased production in the early 2000s, these vintage editions have now acquired collector status.

Standing 24 cm tall, the piece is in good overall condition. The bronze-style patina shows slight, normal wear commensurate with age (micro-rubbing subtly revealing the lighter underlying material on some edges), guaranteeing the vintage nature of the cast. This sculpture, with its strong architectural presence, will structure the space on a sideboard, a bookcase, or a contemporary desk.
