The composition depicts an Allegory of Painting and Music set against a classical architectural background with ruins in the capriccio tradition. At the centre, two female figures embody the respective arts: the first, seated before an easel, holds a palette and brushes; the second, reclining on the ground, holds a golden lyre and wears a laurel crown, her arm raised in an inspired gesture. In the foreground, putti and musical instruments complete the allegory; to the right, two putti appear engaged in reading or study. In the background, an open landscape with classical architecture and statues introduces a winged figure in the sky, a probable evocation of creative genius. The compositional structure and chromatic rendering reflect the French academic tradition of the eighteenth century, with influences from decorative painting in the Rococo taste.
