Large Louis XVI Period Chest Of Drawers Stamped Joseph Feurstein

Solid mahogany and mahogany veneered COMMODE, opening with three drawers with detached column uprights, the upper drawer with brass asparagus-inlaid fluting, the two lower drawers adorned with gilt bronze framing.
Beautifully trimmed with very finely chased and mercury-gilded bronzes such as lock escutcheons, pull handles adorned with fire pots, scrolled ivy branches on detached columns, draperies at the top of the foot jambs, rings and hooves.
Stamped FEURSTEIN for Joseph FEURSTEIN or FEUERSTEIN, Parisian cabinetmaker received Master on April 29, 1767.
Joseph Feuerstein (1733-1809), cabinetmaker of Tyrolean origin, was received
Maître in Paris on April 29, 1767 and established himself on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. His production, active in the second half of the 18th century, was mainly in the Transition and Louis XVI styles. A chest of drawers very close to our model appears on page 351 of Pierre KJELLBERG's book "Le mobilier Français du 18ème siècle".
