Neoclassical Carved And Gilded Wood Frame. Italy, Early 19th Century.
Neoclassical carved and gilded wood frame. Italy, early 19th century.
Clear opening 57,5 x 71 cm - Rebate 58,5 x 73 cm - Overall 67,5 x 82 cm.
Carved and gilded wood throughout.
The frame features a reverse cavetto profile entirely decorated with palmettes in continuous repetition, following the Neoclassical repertoire widespread in Italy during the early decades of the 19th century. A narrow bead moulding separates the main band from the plain rebate. The gilding retains its warm tonality with a uniform patina of ageing.
Condition report: Generally good state of preservation. Minor losses and wear to the gilding are present. A loss to the rebate is noted at the lower left.
