Jan Anteunis, 1896-1973, Belgian intimist sculptor born in Ghent where he was a pupil at the Academy of Fine Arts. When the First World War broke out, he went into exile in Liverpool, where he studied with Richard Allen at the University of Art and worked in a munitions factory, where he was wounded in a bombardment. After the war, he studied at the Ghent Academy of Fine Arts from 1918 to 1920, where he was a pupil of sculptors Félix Mettepenninghen and Géo Verbanck. He won several drawing and sculpture prizes. After an academic period, his style became more personal, characterized by purity of line, refined beauty and graceful women, often representing his wife and children. He also sculpted subjects of religious inspiration. He remained faithful to Ghent throughout his life, where he died in 1973. Works in the Museums of Brussels, Roeselare and Sint-Niklaas. Artist listed at Bénézit, Arto and Piron. Coté Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
