Biography:

After an international career in the shipbuilding industry, Pierre Bernay has been devoting himself to marine painting for the past 10 years, inspired by his many visits and travels in contact with the maritime world and by sailing on French coasts or far away during an expedition to Antarctica in 2017.

Trained in academic painting at the Princeton Academy of Arts in the United States, Pierre also evolves in contact with American marine painters from the American Society of Marine Artists, of which he has been a signatory member since 2015. His figurative style is combined with a more spontaneous and expressive French touch, leaving a large part to the revelation of forms by light; his brushstrokes, sometimes lively or in blur, offering the viewer a singular vision of the subject.

Located in Montreuil-Bellay (Maine et Loire, 49), Pierre works most of the time on the motif in the open air or in the studio, and readily displays his taste for weather and rough seas.
