Iron Coffee Table By Roger Thibier (1926-2001) For Ramsay
Roger THIBIER (1926-2001) Wrought-iron coffee table with gold patina and four sheathed legs supporting a glass top and joined by a spacer formed by a double arc of a circle.
Work by the Maison Ramsay from the mid-twentieth century.
Note: a chip on the top in the corner (see detailed photos). Almost invisible once the tray is in place.
Dimensions: H 39.5 W 114 D 53.5 cm
Top thickness: 1.5 cm
Born in Paris into a wealthy family, Robert Thibier (1926-2001) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and became an interior designer in 1951. With offices in Paris's finest addresses (Place de la Madeleine and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré), he catered to a clientele of celebrities and socialites, including the Rothschild family, as well as sportsmen and industrialists.
Interior architect rather than furniture designer, Thibier produced some furniture for his clients, with the intention of creating "modern antiques" that harmonized with other European antiques and gave a strong impression of opulence. To achieve this, he creates geometric wrought-iron furniture covered in subtle gold leaf. Some of his pieces are signed and numbered.
In the 1970s, Robert Thibier also collaborated with the Maison Ramsay and created some of their most famous creations.
His tomb in the Montparnasse cemetery bears witness to his sense of style.
The Maison Ramsay is a 20th-century furniture and decoration house.
