Louis XIV Period Chest Of Drawers
Louis XIV period chest of drawers. Late 17th / early 18th century. Rhenish work. D-shaped chest of drawers with curved front and straight sides. It rests on a small molded plinth and four "miche" feet. The marquetry is composed of walnut, walnut burl and ash burr on a fir frame. On the top and sides, walnut burl is assembled "open-book", highlighting the symmetry of the wood patterns. Ash burr is used mainly as spandrels. The lock escutcheons, handles and their openwork plates are in bronze. They are finely chased with foliage, flowers and scrolls. The original locks are functional and fitted with an antique key from the same period. Finished with filled wax.
