L XVI Period Speckled Mahogany Cylinder Desk Stamped Molitor

Beautiful cylinder desk in speckled mahogany and veneered wire on all four sides.
The white marble top encircled by a gilded bronze gallery rests on a tier with three drawers.
The cylinder conceals a sliding top surmounted by three small drawers and niches, below, on the front open four drawers
simulating five. Two leather-wrapped pulls slide to the side.
The unit rests on tapered fluted legs. All uprights are also fluted.
Beautiful gilded bronze trim: entrances, handles, beaded rods, pull rings, rings and sabots.
Cloverleaf clasps on all drawers.
It is stamped twice on the edge of the lower front crosspieces B. MOLITOR with the hallmark of JME des Jurés- Menuisiers-Ebénistes.
Beautiful condition and a very pleasing size.
Molitor Bernard, born in Germany in 1730, came to Paris with his brother Michel during the reign of Louis XV, receiving his master's degree in 1787.
This desk, which is smaller (114 cm wide), is similar to the one in the former collection of Mme la baronne de Caix,(Comte François de Salverte," les Ebénistes du XVIII ème," éditions F de Nobele, planche XLIX.
It could be the one shown at number 72 in the catalog raisonné of Ulrich Leben, Molitor ébéniste de Louis XVI à Louis XVIII, Editions d'Art Monelle Hayot, sold in Paris on 15-12-1954, which measured 115 cm.
