Born in Tokushima, Japan, this samurai descendant arrived in the French capital in 1922.
He was welcomed by Foujita and joined the École de Paris alongside Marc Chagall, Ossip Zadkine and Amedeo Modigliani.
His work is today the subject of belated but unanimous recognition among art historians, and in 2025 the artist was honored in a major retrospective orchestrated within the Brussels branch of Maison Ader.
