A pupil of David d'Angers, Didier Debut exhibited at the Salon from 1848 and was awarded the second Prix de Rome in 1851. In the second half of the 19th century, he took part in major projects to decorate Parisian monuments, including the Hôtel de Ville, the Palais Garnier and the Commercial Court. His statuettes were published in bronze[3].

He died on April 5, 1893 at his Paris home quai de Béthune[2].

His son, Marcel Début (1865-1933) was a painter and sculptor[4].
