Polished Brass Cheval Mirror, Neoclassical Style Circa 1970.

This freestanding mirror, known as a "cheval mirror" (or psyché), consists of an architectural structure made of solid polished brass. The tubular chassis rises on a quadruped base formed by four cabriole legs, stiffened at the bottom by a transverse ring-turned stretcher. The two vertical uprights are crowned with turned finials.

The central glass adopts an elongated oval shape, strictly enclosed within a slender brass frame. The mirror is mounted on a transverse pivoting axis, secured to the side uprights by two brass tightening knobs. This mechanism allows the tilt of the glass to be precisely adjusted and locked according to the user's needs.

Typical of high-end European decorative productions of the mid-20th century (marked by neoclassical influences and the Hollywood Regency movement), this piece of furniture combines functional rigor with the nobility of materials. It is offered in good overall condition. The brass displays an even patina of use with discreet traces of oxidation consistent with its age. The mirror glass is intact. A classic piece of furniture, it will authoritatively anchor the space of a bedroom, a large walk-in closet, or a bathroom.
