Giancarlo Piani (1940–1999) graduated as a technician from the “G. Ballardini” Art Institute in Faenza. After gaining over a year of experience at a ceramic paint factory, he opened an art studio in Faenza in 1967, which allowed him to develop his talent as a ceramist while simultaneously conducting passionate research on colors and glazes.
Due to his unique creativity, the sculptor Angelo Biancini—who had been his teacher at the art institute—wanted him, starting in 1970, as a close collaborator and skilled decorator. This collaboration lasted until Biancini’s death in 1988. He has received numerous awards and prizes in Italy and abroad, and many of his works are now part of various private collections.
