Painting Portrait Of A Young Louis XVI Pastel Woman With A Rose Oval Frame Gilded Wood
Nineteenth-century pastel depicting a Louis XVI-style bust of an elegant woman. The composition captivates with its highly decorative oval format and delicate palette of deep blues, powdered pinks and pearly whites. The finely idealized face is framed by a powdered hairdo adorned with small roses, while the blue drapery and floral bouquet on the bodice reinforce the tender, refined charm of the whole. The treatment is soft, vaporous, with that velvety quality characteristic of pastels, perfectly suited to the evocation of female portraits inspired by 18th-century France.
This work belongs to the Louis XVI taste rather than to the period itself. It is a 19th-century pastel in the spirit of the aristocratic and worldly portraits of the late Ancien Régime, in a vein reminiscent of the most graceful French female effigies. The presentation in a gilded oval frame seems consistent with the work and appears to have retained its antique framing, which adds to its decorative power.
The set is presented under glass. There are traces of age, some wear and tear to the frame at the top ( missing molding), as well as dust and impurities visible behind the glass. Good overall decorative condition.
