Christ En Croix In Carved And Gilded Wood - Regency Period, 18th Century
Crossed Christ in carved and gilded wood - Regency period, 18th century
A devotional set depicting a Christ on the cross, carved in wood and entirely gilded with gold leaf, presented in an important Regency-period carved and gilded wood frame.
The finely carved Christ offers beautiful anatomical modeling and an expression imbued with sobriety and spirituality. The antique gold leaf gilding, now patinated by time, lends the whole a great softness and remarkable authenticity.
The cross and frame are also made of carved wood and gilded with gold leaf. The frame, richly adorned with foliage and floral motifs, presents an elegant composition typical of the Regency style, at the transition between classical rigor and the movement of Rocaille decoration.
The red fabric background highlights the figure of Christ and accentuates the contrast with the gilding, offering a presentation both warm and solemn.
Beautiful, homogeneous 18th-century ensemble with a strong decorative presence, equally suited to a characterful interior or a collection of devotional objects.
