Natsume, Japanese Lacquer Tea Caddy, Fireflies - Japan
Tea box, natsume, for tea ceremony macha tea.
In black lacquered wood decorated with fireflies in gold, silver and red makie lacquer vegetation. The luminescent part of the fireflies are in mother-of-pearl (raden) inlay.
The rim of the box and the underside of the lid are decorated with grass and gold powder.
The shape of this natsume is singular with the beveled top.
For the tea ceremony, the tea master chooses his objects according to the seasons, guests, events...
This natsume relates to summer with the fireflies.
Piece on the classic Japanese theme of kachô (an animal and a plant).
